How To Reduce Your Commercial Electricity Bills

Optimising your business cost is one of the most important steps for any business today.  As you look to increase your profit margins, you have to put certain expenditures under the microscope, and the commercial electricity bill is definitely one of those on which you’d want to keep a constant check.

Commercial Electricity

Unlike electronic appliances, the cost of commercial electricity hardly ever goes down; in most cases, it usually just goes up on a yearly basis.  Therefore, finding more energy efficient ways of operating your business is becoming increasingly important. Here are some energy saving tips:

  • Get a Free Appraisal: Although this may not be a service that all power suppliers provide, if your supplier offers this service, you need to take advantage of it and allow an expert to visit your office and figure out if there are any power leaks causing an unwanted burden to your bottom line.
  • Invest in Offices Appliances that Conserve Energy: The amount of energy consumed by appliances today is far less than what was consumed by appliances even a few years ago. One way to know if an appliance is energy efficient is to check for the Energy Star® sign. Appliances with this sign typically consume 20 – 40% less energy than other products of the same kind and model.
  • Lighting: Make sure that all the energy guzzling incandescent and halogen bulbs are replaced with the far more efficient CFL bulbs and Commercial LED lights respectively.
  • If you use a television in the office, make sure that it is off whenever it is not in use. Avoid putting it on standby as it still consumes a lot of energy even in that state.
  • Insulate Your Office: When your office is well insulated, the cost of heating is reduced, particularly during the winter months.  If the windows in your office are not up to the Energy Star® standard or specifications, you should seriously consider upgrading them so that they are capable of not only preventing heat from escaping your office during the winters, but also keeping out half of the sun’s heat during the warmer days.
