Improving Business Energy Efficiency to Meet Carbon Reduction Goals isnt easy, but with the help of an energy broker you could make it easier.  The credit crunch caused deep falls in business activity, energy demand and consequently carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. On March 25, 2010 the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced that the UK’s CO2 equivalent emissions from the six greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol fell by 8.6% in 2009 compared to 2008 emissions.

That is great news, but a new study from Verdantix suggests that CEOs and CFOs (Chief Finance Officers) should urgently improve their business energy efficiency in order to meet carbon reduction goals.

The study reveals that rising energy prices, the threat posed by climate change and the increasing risk of energy supply disruption are among the major reasons company heads need to maximise the efficiency of their business energy consumption.

Verdantix points out that the supply gap within the UK energy market is likely to increase the volatility of business gas and electricity prices.

In order to prepare for these, businesses should adopt a “multi year energy efficiency scheme” and the best way to create such scheme is to hire an energy consultancy firm.   A Fresh pair of eyes can often uncover areas for significant improvement that may not have been previously identified.

But there are measures that can be done in house prior to hiring an energy consultancy firm such as installing lighting controls, voltage power optimisation, variable speed drives and intelligent HVAC controls. These are all effective installing measures that deliver monetary and carbon savings.

In addition, switching energy providers can enable businesses to benefit from cheaper price plans and make essential cost savings. But leave that for your business energy broker to take of.
