Business Energy Services

Catalyst Commercial is an independent business energy consultancy serving UK organisations across procurement, carbon reporting, compliance, and sustainability. We work with 30+ energy suppliers and have supported more than 1,000 commercial clients, from SMEs to large multi-site operators, to reduce costs, meet regulatory obligations, and build credible sustainability strategies through our Business Energy Services.

This guide covers the full range of energy services we provide. Use the links below to navigate to the service most relevant to your organisation.

This guide will also highlight how our Business Energy Services can enhance your organisation’s energy management.

Energy Procurement

Managing your energy contract is the single highest-impact lever most businesses have on their energy costs. The difference between a well-timed, competitively tendered contract and a rolled-over default rate can run into tens of thousands of pounds per year for a mid-sized organisation.

Our procurement service covers:

  • Electricity and gas procurement: we tender your contract across our panel of 30+ approved suppliers and present a like-for-like comparison so you can make an informed decision
  • Fixed, flexible, and blended contracts. We advise on contract structure based on your risk appetite and budget cycle
  • Green energy tariffs: REGO-backed, UK-only, and additionality products for organisations with sustainability commitments
  • Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs): direct renewable energy contracts for larger consumers seeking long-term price certainty
  • Multi-site portfolios: coordinated procurement across multiple meters and premises, with consolidated billing where available
  • Half-hourly metering: for sites with maximum demand above 100 kW, we manage the tendering and settlement process

We are TPI (Third Party Intermediary) accredited and a Crown Commercial Service supplier. Our commission is always disclosed upfront.

Carbon Reporting and Compliance

Carbon reporting requirements have expanded significantly in recent years. Whether you are subject to mandatory SECR reporting, participating in ESOS audits, or voluntarily disclosing under CDP or the GHG Protocol, accurate and defensible carbon data is essential.

Our carbon services include:

  • SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting): mandatory annual reporting for qualifying large UK companies and LLPs; we compile your energy consumption data, calculate emissions using BEIS conversion factors, and produce compliant disclosures for your annual report
  • ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme): Phase 3 compliance support, including energy audits, lead assessor coordination, and Environment Agency notification
  • GHG Protocol reporting: Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculations for voluntary sustainability disclosures
  • Net zero strategy: we help you set a credible baseline, identify reduction targets, and build a roadmap that satisfies stakeholder scrutiny

Energy Management and Monitoring

Procurement sets the unit rate. Energy management reduces the volume. The two together deliver the maximum financial and environmental benefit.

Through our proprietary Cost Stacker™ platform, we provide:

  • Real-time consumption monitoring across your sites
  • Automated alerting for anomalous usage patterns
  • Half-hourly data analysis and demand profiling
  • Benchmarking against sector norms
  • Monthly management reporting

Our EaaSi™ (Energy-as-a-Service Interactive) framework replaces the traditional broker model with an ongoing advisory relationship, continuous monitoring, proactive contract management, and regular reviews rather than a one-off contract switch.

Renewable Energy and On-Site Generation

Switching to verified renewable energy is one of the most visible sustainability commitments a business can make. We help you navigate the options:

  • Green energy tariffs: REGO-backed and additionality products matched to your consumption and reporting requirements
  • Solar PV: feasibility assessment, procurement support, and ongoing monitoring for commercial rooftop and ground-mounted installations
  • Battery storage: demand management and time-of-use optimisation for sites with on-site generation or flexible loads
  • EV charging infrastructure: workplace and fleet charging procurement and installation coordination

Water Procurement

Since the UK business water market opened to competition in 2017, multi-site operators have been able to consolidate their water contracts and reduce costs through competitive tendering, yet many businesses have never reviewed their water spend.

Our water services cover:

  • Bill validation and historical overcharge recovery
  • Competitive tendering across water retailers
  • Leak detection and usage analysis
  • Consolidated billing for multi-site operators

Business Energy Consultancy

Beyond procurement and compliance, many organisations need a strategic energy partner, someone who understands both the commercial and regulatory landscape and can advise across multiple workstreams simultaneously.

Our consultancy team provides:

  • Energy strategy and policy development
  • Sustainability report preparation and review
  • Board-level energy and carbon briefings
  • Supplier dispute resolution and Ombudsman representation
  • Due diligence support for property transactions and acquisitions

We have worked with clients across manufacturing, healthcare, education, retail, hospitality, professional services, and the public sector. Our largest single client saving to date is £650,000 for a manufacturing business, achieved through a combination of contract renegotiation, demand management, and procurement timing.

How We Work

Every engagement starts with a free review of your current energy position. We assess your contracts, consumption data, compliance obligations, and sustainability commitments, then provide a clear recommendation on where to focus first.

There is no obligation to proceed, and our commission structure is always disclosed before you sign anything. Where we earn a commission from a supplier, we tell you exactly how much. Where we charge a consultancy fee, we agree the scope and rate in writing beforehand.

We are a member of the Dispute Resolution Ombudsman scheme (E3361), accredited by the TPI Code of Practice, and hold Cyber Essentials certification.
