Switch Business Water

Our selected supplier panel    Bills checked, not just switched    Free and no obligation    Rated 4.6 on Trustpilot

Switching business water is simple, quick, and changes nothing about your supply. It also saves less than most people expect. Both of those things are worth understanding before you spend time on it.

What Actually Changes When You Switch

Almost nothing, and that is the point.

> Same water. Your regional wholesaler still treats it and delivers it through the same pipes.

> Same meter. Owned by the wholesaler. Nothing is installed, replaced or visited.

> Same wholesale charges. Set by the wholesaler, published, and identical whoever bills you.

> Different retailer. Who bills you, reads your meter, handles your queries and adds their margin.

That is the whole change. Which is why the saving is a few percent, and why the service is the real decision. See business water rates for the full breakdown.

How to Switch, Step by Step

> Find your SPID. The Supply Point ID on your water bill. It identifies your supply the way an MPRN identifies gas. If you cannot find it, we can.

> Check you are free to move. Most business water contracts are short or rolling, so you usually are. Some carry a notice period.

> Get the market compared. On total cost including standing charges, not headline margin. See how to compare business water suppliers.

> Agree and switch. The retailers handle the transfer between themselves. Typically a few weeks.

> Check the first bill. This is the step everyone skips. Opening reads and transferred balances are where switching errors surface.

The Change of Tenancy Trap

This costs businesses far more than any switch will ever save them.

Moving in or out of premises is where water genuinely goes wrong, and it is the most expensive mistake in the whole utility.

> Move out without notifying. You keep getting billed for a site you left, sometimes for years, and it is your name on the account.

> Move in without a contract. You land on deemed terms, the most expensive water available.

> No opening or closing read. Someone else’s consumption becomes yours, and unpicking it later is slow.

> Landlord and tenant confusion. Both parties assume the other has told the retailer. Neither has.

We handle change of tenancy across multi-site estates, including the unglamorous chasing that makes it actually land. It is not exciting work, but it is where the losses are.

Switching Business Water FAQs

Will switching water supplier interrupt my supply?

No. The same wholesaler delivers the same water through the same pipes to the same meter. Nothing physical changes and nobody visits. Only the billing relationship moves.

How long does a business water switch take?

Typically a few weeks. The retailers handle the transfer between themselves once you have agreed terms.

How much will I save switching business water?

Usually a few percent. Only the retail margin is competitive because your wholesaler sets the rest of the bill. If a switch is not worth your time for your site, we will say so.

What is a change of tenancy and why does it matter?

It is the process of transferring a water account when you move into or out of premises. Get it wrong and you are billed for a site you no longer occupy, or you land on expensive deemed rates at a site you just took on. It costs more than switching ever saves.

Can I switch water supplier if I have multiple sites?

Yes, and multi-site estates benefit most, mainly through consolidated billing and because an audit across all your SPIDs tends to find errors that repeat from site to site.

Do I need a new water meter to switch?

No. Your meter is owned by the wholesaler and stays exactly as it is.
