What commercial energy services cover

With our Commercial Energy Services, we know that as energy prices continue to rise, it’s more important than ever to find ways to reduce your energy consumption and lower your monthly bills. That’s where we come in. Our team of energy experts has years of experience in helping customers find the right energy solutions to meet their needs and budget.

Whether you’re looking to switch to a more affordable energy plan, install solar panels, or make energy-efficient upgrades to your business, we have the knowledge and resources to help you make the most of your energy budget.

We provide a consultative approach to a wide range of energy services and solutions

From metering and measuring on site or energy consumption through to our fully funded renewable energy solutions.

Our approach is that of understanding your business needs and your carbon reduction goals.

We can then decide on a technology approach that is appropriate to these needs.

There is a huge choice of different renewable technologies and approaches that can be used to reduce both costs and carbon emissions, and the best solution will depend on the specific circumstances of the business. Some common approaches include:

Energy efficiency measures such as upgrading to energy-efficient lighting such as LED, heating, and cooling systems, and improving insulation to reduce energy consumption.

Renewable energy generation which can include technologies like solar panels, wind turbines, and Gas CHP systems, which can help businesses generate their own clean energy.

Then we can look at carbon offsetting, which involves offsetting a company’s carbon emissions by funding projects that reduce or remove carbon from the atmosphere, such as reforestation or clean energy projects.

Process improvements are also a careful consideration with changes to business processes or supply chain management that result in reduced energy consumption or carbon emissions for your business.

Commercial energy management: controlling what you use

Procurement decides what you pay per unit. Energy management decides how many units you buy, and for most sites it is the larger of the two levers over a three-year view.

In practice commercial energy management means getting the data first and acting on it second. For half-hourly sites that starts with the half-hourly consumption data your meter already produces: overnight baseload that should not be there, plant running through weekends and shutdowns, and demand peaks that drive capacity and network charges rather than the energy bill itself.

From there the work is unglamorous and effective. Correct the agreed capacity where a site has changed use. Check the invoices actually match the contract. Move controllable load away from the expensive bands where the process allows. None of it requires capital spend, and all of it is measurable.

Commercial energy solutions for different types of site

There is no single answer, because a distribution unit, a manufacturing site and a multi-site office estate have very different problems. The commercial energy solutions that suit each are different too:

  • Single site, fixed contract. The gains are in timing the renewal well, checking the non-commodity element rather than only the headline unit rate, and making sure the standing charge and capacity are right for how the site actually runs.
  • Large or energy-intensive users. Flexible and basket purchasing spreads buying across the contract term instead of fixing everything on one day, with position reporting so you can see what has been bought and what is still open.
  • Multi-site estates. The first win is usually administrative: common end dates, one tender rather than many, and a single view of what the portfolio costs. That alone often surfaces sites nobody realised were on out-of-contract rates.
  • Sites with a carbon obligation. Carbon reporting, SECR and ESOS run off the same consumption data as the energy work, so it is wasteful to treat them as separate exercises.

How we work

We are independent and paid transparently. We tender across more than 30 suppliers rather than working from a single panel, and we will tell you when your existing contract is already competitive. We are based in Birmingham and work with commercial energy clients across Birmingham and the West Midlands as well as nationally.

Most engagements start the same way: we look at twelve months of bills and consumption data, set out what is commodity and what is not, and say plainly where the money is. Sometimes that is the contract. Often it is the invoices, the agreed capacity, or a site that has been quietly running out of contract since a lease changed hands.

Our energy market reports go out to clients so the buying decisions are made against the market rather than a supplier’s renewal letter.
