National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) Demand Flexibility Service

The Demand Flexibility Service is because it is well documented that energy prices have spiralled out of control this year over supply and demand fears. To help demand not out strip supply, National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) have several tools in their kit bag to prevent the lights going out.

One of these newest tools is National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) Demand Flexibility Service.

By which the ESO are paying up to £5 per kWh or £5,000 per MWh as a demand reduction incentive, with no cap on the earnings if the demand is not met by the supply available.

This is an opportunity for commercial energy users to be paid to help reduce national demand, whilst also reducing their consumption.

Simple Sign-Up Process

> Register your half hourly electricity MPAN’s for the scheme – No equipment, no minimum requirement, no commitment.
> We will notify you the day before an event and again on the day to reduce consumption at set intervals, typically 2 x 30-minute periods.
> A final reminder 30 minutes before and then 5 minutes before an event starts.
> You simply reduce your total electricity consumption during the event.
> We will notify you once again once the event has finished.

Reducing your consumption is no guarantee that this will count towards the Demand Flexibility Service scheme but if it does you will be paid for your participation. Whilst also helping to reduce your energy costs and improve your carbon footprint.

Your demand reduction is automatically calculated based on the previous 2-weeks consumption during the same event time frame, based on 2 x 30-minute periods.

Any reduction in demand will be calculated at half hourly intervals per MPAN within 15-days of an event, and the value will be calculated on the final achieved price and consumption reduced, but with no guarantee that your load reduction was used as part of the scheme.

Demand Reduction Value

Using an example half hourly supplied building, that has a single meter that reduces 40KW of electricity in a single HH interval, the cash benefit could be up to £100. Over a single demand flexibility service event for 2 HH periods this could earn cash up to £200 and you can participate in as many events as demand flexibility service publish and maximise the cash return. On this example if the site had participated in 3 of these events in a single month this be circa £600.
